Adjiri Odametey - Adjiri is a professional musician with international experience. His artistic roots derive from the traditions of his homeland, Ghana, in West Africa. Adjiri Odametey is a musician who plays African world music in which he transforms with virtuosity the traditional sounds and the feeling of the African heritage into a new “world music”. The music is occasionally lyric and occasionally melodic, but always conveys the joy of playing with rhythm. The music weaves a tapestry of stylistic impression of West Africa. Adjiri Odametey plays numerous traditional instruments such as the 21-stringed cora, balephone, thumb piano also known as the mbira and calimba and various drums. In the opening section of his concerts he plays quieter music – melancholic and very melodic songs – such as those on his first CD Mala which draws on his many experiences as a musician traveling in different cultures. In the second, more lively part of the show, rhythm comes to the forefront as he performs on percussion instruments. In his concerts, he also performs with musicians from his home country. Adjiri Odametey was born and raised in the capital Accra. He was a member of the Ghana Dance Ballet and of the Pan African Orchestra. At 22, after graduating from Secondary School, he toured in Russia, Alaska and Japan. He taught in the German/Ghanaian Kasapa Project in Accra, Ghana and was a member of the Kalifi Dance Ensemble in Germany.
